Telegram Channel Direct Messages: Enable Private Customer Enquiries

To receive private pre-sale enquiries through your Telegram channel, open Channel Settings > Direct Messages and enable the feature. Readers can then tap the message bubble in the channel's bottom bar. Their questions arrive in a channel inbox separate from the owner's personal chats, and authorized administrators can reply on behalf of the channel.

Before announcing the route, decide whether messages will be free, give the intended responder access and check the conversation from an ordinary reader's account.

1. Choose a private channel conversation for the enquiry

Channel direct messages suit questions such as whether a workshop matches someone's experience or whether a service is available on a particular date. The reader can ask without adding that question to the public conversation beneath an announcement. Keep the channel's published information useful enough that a reader knows what to ask.

Use the Telegram channel comments guide when a question should help everyone discussing a post. Telegram Business chat links serve a different destination: a conversation with a Business account, often reached from a website or QR code. Channel direct messages let the channel itself remain the customer-facing identity.

2. Enable Direct Messages and inspect the fee

Use a current Telegram app, sign in as the channel owner and open the intended channel's settings. Go to Direct Messages and switch the feature on. Reopen that setting to confirm your choice before changing the channel description or promising readers a new contact route. Client layout and wording can vary.

Telegram offers an optional fee for each direct message, payable in Telegram Stars. Choose deliberately between free enquiries and paid messages, then inspect what the reader sees before sending. If you enable a fee, make that condition clear in your invitation. Do not describe the route as free while a payment is required.

3. Give the responder the correct access

Designate an administrator to handle enquiries and inspect their channel permissions. The relevant right is called manage_direct_messages in Telegram's documentation. Permission to publish channel posts is a separate right; check direct-message access rather than assuming a posting administrator can open and answer the inbox.

Administrators with this access can view and reply across the channel's direct-message conversations. Each ordinary reader sees only their own conversation, and other ordinary subscribers cannot browse it. Explain this as a private conversation with the channel team. Assigning a colleague to answer is your team arrangement; it does not restrict other authorized admins to separate customers.

A channel can publish updates and receive private enquiries through a separate team inbox.

4. Follow the reader's question through to a reply

Ask a colleague using an ordinary reader account to open the channel, find the bottom-bar message bubble and enter a harmless test question. Use that route rather than an administrator's personal username. If the channel charges for messages, inspect the displayed charge before proceeding with an agreed test.

Have the designated administrator locate that question in the channel inbox and reply there. Back on the reader account, confirm that the answer appears in the same conversation under the channel identity and can be understood without seeing staff discussions. A visible bubble alone does not establish that the whole enquiry route is ready.

5. Tell readers what to send

Publish a short instruction beside the offer or in a pinned reference. Name the message bubble, suggest the information needed for a useful answer and state reply hours your team can actually cover. Avoid asking for payment details or unrelated personal information just to begin a suitability question.

Illustrative workshop invitation: “Unsure which workshop fits? Tap the channel's message bubble and tell us the session you are considering and your experience level. Our team answers during the reply hours listed here.” Replace that final reference with your actual hours before publication.

An illustrative reader question is, “Is the beginner session suitable if I have never used the equipment?” A useful staff reply addresses suitability, identifies anything the reader should bring and offers the current booking route if appropriate. These are sample messages, not a reported customer exchange or a promised sales result.

6. Complete an acceptance check before promotion

Use the checks below after enabling the feature and whenever you change permissions or pricing. Record what the reader and responder actually observe. If a check fails, correct that step and repeat the affected route before adding “message this channel” to a campaign. Keep any test question clearly identifiable to the team.

7. Add automation only after checking this destination

Native channel direct messages can support a manual enquiry workflow without a bot or Business chat link. Enabling a greeting on an administrator's personal Business account does not establish an automatic greeting for the channel inbox. Any proposed automation needs a separate check of its documented support, permissions and behavior in channel direct messages.

Start with an answerable offer and a working reply route. Review recurring questions to improve the channel's explanation, and make the next step clear within each conversation. Keep observations about enquiries separate from completed bookings: receiving a private question shows interest, while a purchase needs its own confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the message bubble missing from my Telegram channel?

The owner should confirm that Channel Settings > Direct Messages is enabled for that channel. Check with a current Telegram client and an ordinary reader account. A comments button belongs to a different feature and does not confirm channel direct messages are enabled.

Do I need a bot or Telegram Business chat link for channel enquiries?

No. The native channel Direct Messages feature provides the enquiry route. A Business chat link opens a Business-account conversation. Bots or other automation are separate choices whose channel-inbox support and permissions must be verified.
