What is Zalo?

Zalo is a mobile-first instant messaging and voice-over-IP app with built-in social features, developed by the Vietnamese technology group VNG Corporation. It combines one-to-one and group chat, voice and video calling, a personal timeline for sharing moments, and a business layer (Zalo Official Accounts and Zalo Business) that companies use to reach customers. In Vietnam it functions less like a single-purpose messenger and more like an everyday utility, spanning personal chat, payments and government and business communication.

History

VNG began developing Zalo in late 2011 and released the first public version in December 2012, after an initial test build in August that year. Built specifically for Vietnamese networks and language, it grew quickly against global rivals and became the most-used messaging app in the country. Over the following years VNG expanded Zalo well beyond chat — adding short video, a private feed, cloud storage (zCloud), and a business and advertising ecosystem — turning it into a super-app for the Vietnamese market.

How many people use Zalo?

Zalo is the dominant messaging platform in Vietnam, ahead of global apps such as Facebook Messenger. VNG reported roughly 77.6 million monthly active users in late 2024, and Vietnamese media reported the base reaching about 79.6 million monthly active users by the end of 2025, with more than two billion messages sent per day — used by an estimated 85% of Vietnamese internet users.

Who uses Zalo?

Zalo’s core audience is the general population of Vietnam — it is used across all provinces and by every age group for personal messaging, and by businesses and public bodies for official communication through Zalo Official Accounts. Outside Vietnam, most users are members of the Vietnamese diaspora staying in touch with family, friends and business contacts back home.

Where Zalo is used

Zalo is overwhelmingly a Vietnamese platform: it is available in all 34 provinces and municipalities and reaches an estimated 85% of the country’s internet users. It is accessible in more than 20 countries worldwide, where adoption tracks the Vietnamese diaspora — most heavily the United States, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Germany, Myanmar and Singapore.

A Zalo number check tells you which phone numbers in a list are actually connected to Zalo — before you spend budget messaging or advertising to them. You upload a list of numbers, we verify each one against Zalo, and you download a clean report marking which are registered and which are not. Nothing is ever sent to the numbers you check, so the people on your list are never contacted or notified during verification.

On top of a registration lookup, Zalo checking here can flag which numbers sit behind accounts that are actually in use, so you can prioritise reachable contacts and drop dormant ones before a campaign.

Every check is priced per number and the rate is shown before you run anything, so a large list has no surprise cost. Results come back as a downloadable report you can feed straight back into your CRM, dialer or ad audience.

How Zalo number checking works

  1. Upload your list

Bring your numbers as a plain list — any common format. They are normalised to E.164 (correct country code and national length) so malformed rows do not silently fail.

  2. Checked against Zalo

Each number is verified against Zalo for the tiers you selected — registration and, where available, activity and profile signals.

  3. Download a clean report

You get a per-number report marking each result, ready to import back into your tools. The people on your list are never messaged during the check.
